ottawa’s a great city to come home to

Coffee aficionado and barista extraordinaire Chris Petrie has recently returned home from a 15 year stay in Australia and he’s back in Ottawa to share his passion for a great cup of coffee. Chris is working with local cafés to help them get the most out of their equipment and how to improve on the café experience. When not behind an espresso machine this winter, Chris loved being on some of Ottawa’s great neighbourhood rinks playing hockey with his kids and friends. “I think it’s awesome that the city and volunteers keep these ice surfaces maintained all through the winter.” Chris grew up in Kanata, but since he’s been back to Ottawa, he’s really enjoying the community feel and the hustle and bustle within walking distance of Westboro. He also loves the density and self serving communities of Hintonburg and The Glebe.

Being away for 15 years really gives perspective to see how a city has evolved. Chris believes Ottawa is right on the cusp and that people want more out of their café/culinary experience – and the growing number of independent bars, cafés, restaurants and craft breweries are helping to satisfy that desire. It’s really cool that so many people like Chris have gone away to finesse their craft and are now returning to Ottawa to share their experience.
