celebrating summertime treats
Kellylee Evans photographed in front of The National Gallery.
I was so lucky to photograph the beautiful and vibrant jazz singer Kellylee Evans the other day. I was immediately taken with Kellylee’s openness, her positiveness and (as she calls it) her super power! This power to her is more about the appreciation and the embracing of each of our own special talents and power. Kellylee was in Ottawa running around town this week promoting her upcoming free Canada Day concert at the NAC and then taking a little time with her kids at the National Gallery, where Kellylee and her kids love playing around The Bourgeois’ spider.
Kellylee sure loves Ottawa – with it’s ‘best of both worlds’ small town feel and big city amenities. “I love to come home to Ottawa. I’ve been living here for over 20 years and it’s still a wonderful place to come back from tour to, every time.”

Like many, Kellylee really loves all of the festivals that fill our summer months. “Ottawa is a city that knows how to enjoy it’s summer. And two of my favourite summertime treats are the Ottawa Jazz Festival and Bluesfest.” Kellylee also has a few favourite local restaurants. Among her favs are Town, PLAY and Union 613 – and she has a special affinity for Shanghai as it was the first Ottawa restaurant to book her as a jazz singer. (I’d sure love to see her perform there!)
When Kellylee isn’t performing or touring, she’s an ambassador for a really awesome organization called Ryan’s Well, that works to provide clean water and sanitary systems around the world. I love that loveOttawa introduces me to so many cool and generous people who not only love our city but are also doing such great work in our community and around the world!
