a southern + gospel music sunday brunch experience at fatboys

I was invited down to Fatboys this past Sunday for their Sunday Brunch and I was totally blown away, I can’t believe I hadn’t been there before. The food was amazing, the music by Sherri Harding was great and the staff were all so awesome! The Fatboys folks have totally hit it, to give Ottawa a fun southern hospitality experience. I can’t wait to check a night of Southern BBQ!

A big thank you to Shawn, Mike, Chief, Dan, Bondy and all of the other Fatboys staff!

an urban eating experience out in suburbia

I had such an excellent experience at Aperitivo last evening with my daughter and her best friend. I generally eat downtown, but both my daughter and friend work in the Centrum Plaza, so dinner out there made sense. What I really have to say is the food was beyond amazing and Erica’s service was second to none. We all had the braised beef and yes you didn’t need a knife as it was falling apart with your fork. Whether you live out in Kanata or right downtown, Aperitivo is the restaurant you need to make your regular favourite – it’s definitely mine!

great streetside curry in a hurry

I happened upon the nicest fellow, Mubashir – who has this amazing little street side curry cart on the corner of Preston and Carling called Streetside Curry. The food is delicious and the experience is beyond delightful! It’s definitely worth the stop if you’re driving by, and there’s always room in the bank parking lot.

great food, cool atmosphere and a room full of respect

I’m no foodie, but I know great food when I taste it – and the food at El Camino on Elgin is beyond great! The tacos are simple, affordable and so delicious (pork, beef, lamb or fish). My non-taco favorites are the salt + pepper squid and the shrimp dumplings. And the tequila and cocktails are second to none in town! But enough about the food and drinks. The place just has this cool vibe. Is it the music or the lighting, the take-out window or the industrial urban atmosphere? Of course all of that comes into play, but in my opinion it’s more than that – for me it’s the respectful dynamic between kitchen, front of the house and the customer that owner Matt Carmichael and manager Andrea Brickell have created. No wonder most of their customers are all dedicated regulars. If you haven’t yet eaten at El Camino, the line up at the door is more than worth the wait!
