ottawa is big and small – much like our orchestra

Marjolaine Fournier and Lucille photographed at The NAC.

What a treat it was to photograph The National Arts Centre Orchestra’s assistant principal bassist Marjolaine Fournier and her beautiful 150 year old bass (Lucille). It’s so cool to photograph someone so talented yet so humble – and someone with such appreciation for people and life. Marjolaine told me that she loves how Ottawa is a city that is both big and small at the same time, much like her orchestra. “The NACO plays big music for it’s relatively small size, and much like Ottawa it’s a family of talented musicians from diverse backgrounds and places”. MJ as many affectionately call her, is proud of her orchestra and very passionate about music – and she loves to share both with Ottawa!

I like to ask everyone if they have a favorite place they love to eat or if they have any jewels they’d like to share. One place MJ loves to eat and to take friends is the Talay Thai Restaurant on Bank and she was super excited to tell us about Nosh Nerds (the best macaroons ever!)

Thanks Marjolaine for braving the camera and sharing the lovely Lucille with all of us!
