ottawa’s royal visit – so much heart

Royal Wood photographed at Play Food and Wine.

It was so nice and such a pleasure to photograph singer songwriter Royal Wood this afternoon! He was in town promoting his recently released album The Burning Bright and his upcoming concert at The NAC on May 10th. It was so cool that he made a little time to meet us at one of his favourite Ottawa restaurants – Play Food and Wine in the Byward Market. Shooting at Play was such a natural location for us to shoot because of Royal’s love of wine and he’s a budding sommelier in training.

So what does Royal Wood love about Ottawa? The answer wasn’t a surprising one, he loves playing at The National Arts Centre. “It’s the greatest venue I’ve played at – great sound and great people!” Royal’s really looking forward to the May concert at the NAC because it’ll also be paired with some of his favourite Ontario wines from Jackson Triggs and Fielding Estate Winery. (pretty cool)

Royal Wood’s recent album Burning Bright is so full of heart and emotion – you can hear it at CBC Music and/or you can buy the album at Maple Music. I’ll be giving some tickets away to his May concert as it gets closer, but you can of course buy them directly from The NAC.

For more information about Royal’s music and tour dates: and you can follow him on twitter at: @RoyalWood

Thanks again Royal for making the time for us and a big thank you to Marie-Chantale from NAC Presents for making the shoot happen. And a kind thanks to Isa and Sarah from Play for taking such good care of us. :)
