saturdays are for twitter and exploring the city

Jessica King and Steve Carswell photographed at The Bank Street Bridge.

It was so nice to meet and photograph Jessica King and Steve Carswell last weekend in the Glebe. Jessica had originally emailed me a month ago sharing some of the things that her and her boyfriend Steve love the most about Ottawa, including the Bank Street Bridge (what a great background for their photo). Something Jessica shared in her letter was that she didn’t really appreciate Ottawa until she bought a bike and started exploring the city with Steve – and these biking explorations always included passing over or under their bridge.

When I asked Jessica and Steve what they love about Ottawa, they told me they loved Saturdays. That’s the day they’d spend a little time on twitter to get a sense of what’s happening in town, giving them a few things to point their bikes towards – things like a roller derby event at City Hall, Westfest in Westboro or maybe a new food truck downtown. The destinations weren’t nearly as important as the places and people they’d discover along the way!

I love how open Jessica and Steve are to new experiences, but like everyone they do have some favorite things about Ottawa. Jessica loves when she can see a dance performance at the National Arts Centre, and they both love the Glebe (especially places Irene’s Pub and Flapjacks). Another place they love in Ottawa, which is kind of a hidden gem is The Rockcliffe Boathouse restaurant where you can eat, soak up the summer sun – right down on the Ottawa river.

“Ottawa is a town to explore and to experience if you’re open to anything”.  Thanks Jessica and Steve for sharing, I hope your Saturday is an awesome one!
