spreading creative happiness around town
Anne Wanda Tessier on the corner of Wellington and McCormick in Hintonburg.
I photographed the very positive and driven local artist Anne Wanda Tessier this morning – in front of one of her recent personal art gifts to Hintonburg (two bus shelter / art installations). Anne is such a busy woman who wears more than a few hats. She works as a production manager at the National Gallery, she teaches yoga, she’s a co-organizer of The Hintonburg Happening and she’s also a visual artist, painter and print maker. But most of all shes a very positive and generous person, which is why I wanted to photograph her for loveOttawa.
Anne like many, loves Ottawa’s waterways and green spaces for biking and exploring, but as an artist she definitely loves Ottawa’s art scene and how it’s evolving and she really appreciates that there are lots of organizations who are providing grants to artists to create their art. “There is lots of artistic talent in this city! She would still love to see even more gallery space and more support for the local Ottawa artists – more support means more locally produced art!

It was cool that Anne showed up this morning with her bicycle, she loves how easy it is to get around from neighbourhood to neighbourhood by bike – with lots of fantastic views and green spaces to explore in between. And these neighbourhoods have so many great restaurants and cafés to enjoy, here’s some of Anne’s favourites:
Supply & Demand (Everything is delicious!)
El Camino (MMMMMM tacos.)
Art is In Bakery (Brunch is fantastic!)
Bread By Us (Amazing selection of breads.)
Pressed (Waffle brunches and pressed sandwiches are the best.)
Hintonburg Public House (Love the decor, and great meeting spot with friends.)
Blumenstudio (Beautiful hangout spot, and her flower arrangements are the best.)
Café My House (Every bite is heaven! Such amazing combinations.)
Simply Raw (Fantastic food that is soooo good for you!)
Anne is definitely a big proponent for community and the arts in Ottawa, she’s been very involved in organizing and marketing the upcoming Hintonburg Happening (June 21 – 29) – a Hintonburg Community focused festival celebrating local visual and performing artists as well as the local businesses. “Its been a lot of work, but its been amazing to get to know business owners and artists in the neighbourhood.” I’m not sure how Anne’s fits it all in, but we’re certainly super lucky she does!
