the voice of arts + culture – not to mention the news

Laurence Wall photographed in the West End of Ottawa.

It certainly was a treat to photograph Laurence Wall yesterday morning while he was on his way into work at The CBC. (Laurence chose this beautiful and enveloping location to shoot, as it’s such a peaceful and calming start to his day). Laurence as many know, is the deep and rich voice of news in the afternoon at CBC 1 here in Ottawa, of which he loves doing – “producing and presenting the news is great because everyday is so very different”. His voice is also very appreciated in the arts & culture world in Ottawa, as he’s often asked to MC and present many classical music events here in town. His answer to what he loves about Ottawa was an easy one – “the variety, depth and quality of classical music performance in our city”. He’s loved the National Arts Centre Orchestra’s music under the preeminent guidance of Pinchas Zukerman and he’s very much looking forward to enjoying what the NACO will have to offer once the baton is passed onto the new conductor Alexander Shelley.

Like many, Laurence loves the museums here in Ottawa, but his favorite is the Canada Aviation and Space Museum.  This museum is sometimes overlooked because of its location, but its collection of aircraft is incredible and is such a great outing for families. When I asked Laurence if he had a favorite restaurant, he wanted me to know that La Dolce Vita on Preston isn’t just a great restaurant, they also have one of the best gluten-free menus in town. Thanks so much to Laurence for taking the time to chat and letting us photograph him – such a pleasure!
